Saffron & Salt emerged from the heartfelt inspiration of cherished family traditions and a profound love for cooking. Founded by Ashley Priest, her business pays homage to her grandparents, Grandma Margret and Grandpa Francis, whose passion for gardening and preserving flavors ignited Ashley's culinary journey.

My mission is to create unique condiments that draw on nostalgia to create innovative products that bring unexpected flavors to everyday meals.

Cultivating Culinary Traditions

Ashley's childhood memories were summers spent amidst her grandparents' garden bounty, the heat in her grandma’s kitchen, and the joy of tasting homemade ice cream with fresh raspberry syrup. The fun of cultivating produce and crafting homemade recipes was ingrained in Ashley's upbringing, nurturing her love for homegrown flavors.

However, it wasn't until 2018, spurred by a realization of life's fleeting nature, that Ashley decided to turn her culinary dreams into reality. Overcoming the hurdles of learning the intricacies of the business world, Saffron & Salt soft-launched in 2022, with a full-fledged debut in 2023.

Flavors Reimagined

At Saffron & Salt, innovation meets tradition in a symphony of flavors. Each product is a testament to Ashley's commitment to reimagining old recipes for a modern palate. Woodward Corner Market in Royal Oak currently stocks Saffron & Salt’s Candied Jalapeños. However, their product line will soon be expanding to include their Firecracker Carrots, Sweet Burn Pickles, and Love Bite Dip (a jalapeño cheddar spread!). With a focus on quality and creativity, Saffron & Salt offers condiments that elevate everyday meals to culinary delights.

The name itself reflects the company's philosophy: offering high-quality, unique condiments that are accessible to everyone. Just like saffron, the world's most expensive spice, and salt, a common household staple, Saffron & Salt caters to a variety of tastes and budgets.

Empowering Connections

Throughout the early stages of her business, Ashley has received support and guidance from organizations like SheHive, Woodward Corner Market, and other programs that support small businesses such as the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and Oakland Thrive. Uniquely, Saffron & Salt is committed to empowering other female entrepreneurs. From marketing to production, Ashley has partnered with talented women to bring her vision to life.

Saffron & Salt prioritizes customer experience. Ashley actively encourages feedback and takes pride in addressing any concerns. She believes that building relationships with customers is just as important as offering delicious products. This commitment is evident in the loyalty of her customer base, many of whom return again and again for a taste of tradition with a modern twist.

Without the community, it wouldn’t be Saffron and Salt, it would still be a dream.

Savoring Shared Passions

As Saffron & Salt continues to evolve, its essence remains rooted in the shared experiences of its founder and community. With each jar of condiment, Ashley extends an invitation to savor not just the flavors but the stories and traditions that enrich every bite. Looking ahead, Ashley is excited about new product expansions and endeavors that will deepen the bonds with her customers and community.
