Meet Hell Fire Detroit: Stay Saucy

WRITTEN BY CHRIS RILEY

Take a moment and think about all the amazing condiments that share the world with us. Now take a moment and think about which condiment you believe deserves first place. In a world with so much variety, the fight for first place is endless and quite subjective. However, the fact remains that there are a few top contenders. And among those top contenders is hot sauce.

THINGS ARE HEATING UP

When you spend all day and night grilling, blending and eating chile peppers, you will most likely end up dreaming about them too. Don’t believe it? Well maybe you should meet Don Button. In 2014 he decided to make hot sauce as Christmas gifts and after spending so much time with them, he had a dream about them. A vivid dream in which he owned a hot sauce company called Hell Fire Detroit. So after waking up, he rushed to the internet to purchase the domain and make the dream a reality. He later ended up launching it in 2015 at Making it in Michigan—a food entrepreneur trade show in which Hell Fire Detroit won Best of Show for quality, flavor, branding and more.

Don firmly believes hot sauce is the best condiment and his love for it pushed him to create something that allows it to be consumed in its purest form. He did his best to highlight the character of the chile pepper by only adding a minimal amount of apple cider vinegar, sea salt, water and olive oil. And the magic? That comes from fire-roasting fresh peppers in a chile roaster in small batches.

IT’S HEALTHY & CELEBRITIES LIKE IT

There’s plenty of research supporting the claim that hot sauce is healthy. And thanks to the active ingredient in chile pepper, capsaicin, there’s a range of health-promoting benefits in Hell Fire Detroit hot sauces including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. And if none of that impresses you, how about this next bit of hot news. On an episode of Hot Ones Idris Elba said it’s by far his favorite while trying a variety of flavorful, top tier hot sauces. Let that sink in.

And if his name isn’t enough to get you excited about the products at Hell Fire Detroit, then look to other well-known names that have had the pleasure of trying it on other season 9 episodes. A roster of celebrities including the Jonas Brothers, Kristen Bell, Halle Berry, Schoolboy Q and more. And that’s just the habanero flavor. Their Bourbon Habanero Ghost flavor makes an appearance on season 13 of Hot Ones and manages to impress a host of even more celebrities.
